No one knows the ins and outs of a beloved boutique like the people who work there. So today, we’re going straight to the source. Enter: Anthropologie‘s Chief Marketing Officer, Elizabeth Preis. She shares with us her expert tips on how to get Anthropologie discounts, the best items to shop, and even insider advice on hosting your very own soirée at a store. There’s always free shipping.
These days, few big-batch retailers offer free shipping unless you spend a few hundred (or thousand) dollars. Thankfully, Anthropologie does things differently. “All you need to do is sign up for AnthroPerks with your email address,” Preis tells House Beautiful. “No catches or costs. Then, almost everything $50 or more ships free. It’s almost impossible not to meet that threshold.”
And it’s not because of high price tags, it can be difficult to check out with just one item.

Place a custom order for furniture.
There’s nothing worse than falling in love with a sofa only to realize the available colorways won’t work in your space. Lucky for you, that will never happen at Anthropologie. You can custom-design several pieces from the brand’s home collection.
“Anthropologie’s made-to-order furniture is totally unique,” Preis says. “Where else can you get a chartreuse velvet sofa? A watermelon linen swivel chair? The colors and combinations have to be seen to be believed.”
Birthday discounts last all month long!
Anthropologie keeps the celebrations coming as discounts go from the first to the last day of your birthday month. While you can’t apply the 20 percent off promotion to every purchase, feel free to load up your cart and place one big order to take advantage of the epic Anthropologie discount. “Anthro’s birthday discount is famous for a reason,” according to Preis. “You can use it on everything. It’s your chance to go big and shop home.”
You can buy Anthro’s signature scent.
Some stores have a familiar and comforting smell that makes you feel instantly at ease. Anthropologie is one of them. Rest assured, it’s not a custom concoction wafting through the air vents, it’s a candle you can buy right off the shelf. “Staples from Voluspa and the signature Volcano scent are only the beginning,” Preis reveals. “Anthropologie offers hundreds of vessel-aroma combos that make the best gifts.”
Yes to free returns.
If you have any issues with your purchase, you can send it back for free. “Go ahead and lose your receipts forever because once you join the perks program, we can track every item, look up any order in moments, and ensure effortless exchanges,” Preis notes.
Interior designers are at your service.
This is a huge perk that more customers should use. “Anthro has a team of dedicated interior experts and stylists that would love to spend time helping you level up your space,” Preis shares. “They’ll answer questions, make recommendations, talk you through swatches and samples, and even talk you through an easy-peasy delivery (read: no scuffs, no fuss!).”
In-store furniture is on sale.
Ever needed to take a break and sit down on a big velvet couch in the middle of the store? Well, it’s likely that the couch is available for purchase. If you see something you’re interested in, ask an employee if it’s up for grabs. Oh, and take a good look at the piece because chances are, you can get a damage discount given that it’s been out on the floor for everyone to sit on.
Finally, plan an event.
Anyone with a green thumb may already know that Terrain is a separate store that’s part of the Anthropologie group, but if you’re a budding gardener, you may want to check out the ethereal space. “You can host events there— even your wedding,” Preis emphasizes. “It’s a magical venue.”
